International Disability Day: 3rd December 2021

Today is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3). The day has been promoted by the United Nations even since 1992. On this day we try to raise awareness on disabiltiy and destigmatize social avoidance of people with disabilities. We want to raise a voice.

International Disability Day: What It Is And How You can Be Part of It

One billion people, or 15% of the world’s population is disabled. Over 100 million disabled people are kids. People with disabilities have been affected by various health social and societal factors. Therefore, this day is observed every year in an attempt to raise awareness and participation of disabled people in the sustainable development.

Each year, the theme revolves around a key aspect on disability. This year, the theme for IDPD is “Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world.”

On this day, organisations, non profits and people around the world try to raise awareness on disability through social media posts, shares, comments, inspiring life stories and more. It is a day that we think deserves more recognition and more shoutouts in the online media.

Organisations such as the Global Disability Hub are spreading the word through campaigns on empowering people with disabilities. The United Nations as well have organised a series of events for the International Disability Day 2021, such as:

  • “Shaping an Inclusive Future for All: Leading with Determination”, an event organized at United Nations at World Expo 2020 Dubai.
  • “Leadership of the new generations: Children and adolescents with disabilities and their voices post COVID-19”
  • You can find more information on these events here. Let us know if there’s one in your area!

International Disability Day on Our Stasism Communities

That’s why we’ve decided to host a chat on Clubhouse on our Cerebral Palsy community, as well as on the 15% Club. With the help of the people involved in these communities, people who are able bodied and not, we want to hold important conversations. We want to share as much as possible and bring forward emotions, feelings and why not, also concrete actions.

We are looking forward to seeing you there and create some meaningful connections. You can also send us a direct message if there’s any way you would like to be involved.

We are also pairing up with micro influencers on Instagram to share stories on their life journeys, how it is to deal with cerebral palsy or other kind of disabilities and how they are navigating disability. Come have a chat with us or drop us a message, send us a photo of your activitiy for the International Disability Day and we will share them across!
